HYMARK
BALL BEARING CLUTCH SYSTEMS
|
|
Arctic Cat has built a new
roller clutch cover for some of the 1998 year model snowmobiles. Our same hardened steel
single point radius helix fits this new clutch the same as the older clutch that has been
used for years. The Hymark Performance ball bearing cover for this new clutch however is
different. If one is not certain which clutch they have, all they have to do is measure
the round steel portion that is not threaded which protrudes above the cast aluminum
rectangular tower, the older clutch measures 1 3/16" high and the newer clutch
measures 7/16" high. Through continued refinement and testing Hymark Performance has
narrowed the helix selection to three basic helix angles, 45, 47.5, and 50 degree angles
that we recommend for most applications. We still have a large selection of helix angles
available in inventory. Arctic Cat built a third clutch that was available in 1997 on 580
E.F.1 models only. This clutch looks like a Polaris driven clutch. The Hymark Performance
ball bearing clutch system for the Polaris look alike comes with only one helix option,
and that is a 50 degree helix. However, the same 88-HYmark springs that are available for
all of our ball bearing clutch systems will work with this clutch. The Hymark Performance ball bearing clutch systems are the finest
most durable and precise shifting driven clutch systems available! We continually test and
refine our products 12 months out of the year. This insures that our customers get the
very best products that money can buy.
What we have found through years of testing
in the snow and running our dune buggies in the summer months in the sand is that in our
near frictionless ball bearing clutch systems, the helix angle selection is not near as
important as the spring used. This is one reason that our spring selection is so large and
the reason for the reduction of helix angles manufactured for this 1998 snowmobile season.
Another reason, is that one can purchase five springs for the price of one helix and have
greater tune-ability. |

ARCTIC CAT BALL
BEARING CLUTCH COVER
There are many advantages to
this clutch design. The cover is machined from 6061 billet aluminum for strength, long
life, and precise balance. Bearing replacement is simple and inexpensive. This billet
aluminum clutch cover uses the stock bushing. The bearings used in this cover are a
precision double-row ball camfollower bearing.

ARCTIC
CAT HARDENED STEEL RADIUSED HELIX
The Hymark Performance helix is a hardened
steel single point contact radius helix. A roller bearing clutch must have a radiused
surface for the roller bearing to contact. This will ensure center contact of the roller
bearing surface throughout a variety of helix angles. Without a radiused surface on the
helix, the helix will actually create a side load on the roller bearings as it changes
positions through varied helix angles and cause binding. To prevent this from happening,
Hymark Performance has developed a series of helix profiles with our patented radiused
contact surface. These helix are machined from high quality steel and heat-treated to near
bearing hardness. Even though the radiused helix is made of high quality steel, the
special design adds only ounces to the driven clutch. These helix are designed to last a
lifetime.
For those who want to take advantage of the
radiused helix technology but still wish to use the factory Arctic Cat roller bearing
clutch cover we have available an aluminum spacer. This spacer allows for the use of our
hardened steel helix that will get rid of roller bearing binding and wear.

DRIVEN CLUTCH SPRINGS |
|
Hymark
Performance has developed several new springs for our ball bearing clutch systems. We have
also developed spring torque charts and spring compression charts in order for one to more
fully understand which spring or springs would be desired. In most of the new and older
style Arctic Cat driven clutches, we would recommend the use of our HY-201W spring
or the stock yellow spring. In the Polaris look alike driven clutch with the 50
degree helix, we would recommend the use of our 88-HY192Y,or our 88-HY188P spring.
