Horsepower Recommendations for 7mm and 5/16” studs

When selecting a stud shank size (7mm or 5/16”), take into consideration your sled size and riding style. The 7mm studs are smaller in diameter at both the head and shank, and therefore they are lighter. These studs require a 7mm support plate for correct fit. Typically the 7mm stud is recommended for snowmobiles with less than 100 horsepower. Often this applies to sleds smaller than 600cc.

The 5/16” studs have a larger head and shank. These studs require a 5/16” support plate.  Sleds larger than 100 horsepower typically use 5/16” studs. In general, snowmobiles 600cc and larger typically fall into this range.

These are only general recommendations. Terrain and riding style should be accounted for when choosing stud shank size. Be sure to verify the size of your sled and consult your local dealer for an exact recommendation.
