    Studding a 2003 Arctic Cat F-5 or F-7 Firecat

Arctic Cat’s Firecat snowmobile provides an exciting new option for the performance-oriented rider.  The distinctive tunnel design on the Firecat requires that special care be taken when studding this sled.  The strength-enhancing shape of the tunnel prevents studs from being located on the outside or down the center of the track.  In addition, the 13.5” wide by 51-lug track requires a unique configuration to achieve a standard 96 or 144 pattern.

Arctic Cat has made available two different lug heights for the 2002 Firecat. We recommend the following studs for use with the Firecat:

    Lug Height

    1”
    1 3/8”

Stud

1.075” length Gold Digger©, Mega-Bite™ or Excel™ stud
1.450” Mega-Bite™ stud

Woody’s 13.5” template is designed to accommodate the special needs of this sled while maximizing the number of scratch lines in the studding pattern. To minimize the chances of tunnel damage or clearance problems always use a Woody’s 13.5” template to mark your stud pattern.

The Woody’s 13.5”x 128” template provides the following pattern options:

·
96 studs with single support plates

·
96 studs with Double Digger™ support plates
·
144 studs with single and Double Digger™
        support plates.

When completed, the Woody’s 13.5” x 128” template will result in three empty lugs in the pattern.  This design accommodates standard stud package sizes, so the installer will not need to by extra studs to fill in any additional stud locations.

When studding your sled you should initially mark the hole locations using a Track Marker, carefully following the instructions.  Because this sled has

a 51-lug track, the pattern should be marked and the template moved four times. This process will result in markings on 16 lugs. The 17th lug should be skipped, and the process repeated. The result will be 48 lugs marked for studs and three empty lugs.  Before drilling, verify the pattern.  Make sure the 17th, 34th, and 51st lugs are empty, which will result in a balanced track.  The details for this process are listed on the template.  After the track is marked and verified, drill the holes and install the studs.  For more details see the Stud Installation web page in our Tech Tips section of the web site.

If the installer chooses to put studs in the three empty lugs, the pattern will still work but additional studs will be needed.  The resulting stud quantities will be:

               Original Pattern Quantity
                               New Pattern Quantity
               ( 3 Lugs Skipped )
                                               ( All Lugs Studded )

                      96 Studs …………………………………..          102 Studs
                      144 Studs………………………………….          153 Studs
